Due to their innovative nature, AI and Generative AI (GenAI) are widely discussed among the public. For example, a frequent concern deals with the extent to which AI can replace employees (Robinson, 2024). However, research is also proposing a different scenario, which is AI augmentation, that deals with the extent to which humans can be expanded (and not replaced) by AI. Although similar concepts have been proposed in previous years (Hoffman & Novak, 2018; Puntoni et al., 2021), the idea of augmentation has been further explored with the diffusion of GenAI, especially in the workplace. This work aims to examine this topic.

Abstract
Due to their innovative nature, AI and Generative AI (GenAI) are widely discussed among the public. For example, a frequent concern deals with the extent to which AI can replace employees (Robinson, 2024). However, research is also proposing a different scenario, which is AI augmentation, that deals with the extent to which humans can be expanded (and not replaced) by AI. Although similar concepts have been proposed in previous years (Hoffman & Novak, 2018; Puntoni et al., 2021), the idea of augmentation has been further explored with the diffusion of GenAI, especially in the workplace.
